Elise Girdham

Elise is a calm and encouraging clinical psychologist who is dedicated to supporting you to reach your desired goals.  

Elise has experience working with children, adolescents and adults across community, hospital and private clinic settings. She has experience providing individual and group therapy to people presenting with a range of issues including: depression, anxiety, adjustment to life changes, relationship difficulties, substance use, self-esteem issues and other behavioural or emotional problems. She has particular interest in supporting and treating adults experiencing anxiety, depression, young adults navigating life after school, and people adjusting to life transitions. 

 

Elise has worked as a psychologist both locally in Brisbane and for several years overseas in Amsterdam. Having lived experience being an expat, she understands the many challenges and opportunities that come from the expat experience and reintegrating back into ones' home country. 

Elise adopts a respectful and non-judgemental approach to her individual work. Working primarily from a cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) approach, she also uses techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and mindfulness therapies to best meet the needs of her clients. She assists clients in their goals not only to alleviate distress, but also to gain increased self understanding and self acceptance.

Masters of Clinical Psychology, University of Queensland

Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours I), University of Queensland

Elise holds general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA), and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
